"I have been humming that tune all day." Unknown (but likely everyone)
Most of us have had that moment. That part of the day where, beyond our control, you find a song or the melody of one simply "stuck in your head". It is not a conscious decision, it just happens. Sometimes with a simple turn of the channel;
"We're off to see the..."
the turn of a radio station;
"I wrote a song for you, And all the things you do..."
or even the mention of a crunchy bug;
"We all live in a..."
But no matter the cue, these songs often can be a smile or a repeating nuisance. So much so, that this weekend in Chicago at the Association for Psychological Science conference, it was part of the discussion on the connection between Music and the Brain.
What did researchers find out was the the best answer for getting rid of the "ear worms" as they call them? It is as simple as listening to a different song. However, they do warn that may just simply cause the new song to get stuck as well. Is that so bad?
WARNING:
Listening to the quotes from above in their entirety below may cause "ear worms." Please proceed with caution.
