The "Wednesday Phew"

"Wednesday Phew "[wenz-dey-fyoo]
definition: A moment that brought a sigh of relief, sarcastic or not.

"What if it's Arrietty?"
"Maybe it's Spider-Man?"

For a few nights now, periodic taps of footsteps upon our roof have had imaginations racing within our house. But with everyone struggling from a lack of sleep, it was clear brushing it aside was no longer an option. So no matter the inevitable crushing blow to my kids dreams of superheroes and borrowers wanting to play, I had no choice but to find the answer.

So last night, doing my best James Bond, I put down the Flat Stanley's I was drawing, and headed outside with my spotlight in hand. I was determined to catch whoever, or whatever, was dancing upon our rooftop. The back of the house gave no answers, so to the front I ran where I immediately spotted something in the shadows.

I threw the spotlight to my wife.
It was staring right back at me. And it was wearing a mask!
My heart was racing.
I had found the elusive answer.
It was...a raccoon.

But not only was he busy tap dancing tonight, he had also just finished ripping back my soffit and was climbing into our attic.

PHEW! Here I thought I would have to crush my kid's dreams of the imaginary with nothing to console them with. But thanks to the raccoon, I can tell them it wasn't what they had hoped for, but now they have the pet they always wanted. Albeit, one that does not share very well.

As always, whether this is worthy of a “Wednesday Phew” moment, sarcastic or not, that is up to you. See you next week!

P.S.: I am typing this as I sit and wait for Pest Control to arrive.
