Music Monday - Elbow

This week my Music Monday thanks goes out to the British Alternative band Elbow. Having seen them live a half dozen times, they were a lock when choosing bands to listen to as I work on my book. These daring Brits have a unique sound that comes from a willingness to experiment instrumentally, while always being anchored by the ethereal vocals of Guy Garvey. Having said that, they are also a band that never changes for the sake of the charts. Elbow writes songs like true artists, expressively going through the joy and pain for the sake of their craft. The obvious love and care for their music creates a journey throughout their albums and even their songs. With lyric and pace often changing mid-track, enough credit can not be given to their multi-talented drummer Richard Jupp. Often called upon to be a magician, Richard sits behind the kit with the wizard-like task of keeping the layers of sound woven together.

Their music so compelling, I have no doubt those new to their music will have found a band they will instantly love. You can find their extensive catalogue of music over at Fiction Records Store and iTunes. As well, I highly suggest keeping an eye out for their b-side compilation, "Dead In The Boot," which is available August 27.  If you would like to keep in touch with the bands releases, tour dates, etc., you can follow the band on Twitter and on Facebook.

While you are out music shopping, why not check out their amazing Olympic theme "First Steps," which is available in the UK from HMV and 7 Digital, with a portion of proceeds going to two different charities.
